12 Days of Christmas - On a Budget

November 19, 2018 | Return to News & Updates

Every year, PNC Bank enlightens us with how much the 12 days of Christmas actually costs in this day in age. In 2017, the calculated price was $34,558.65.

That’s a big chunk of change for twelve drummers drumming, eleven pipers piping, ten lords-a-leaping, nine ladies dancing, eight maids-a-milking, seven swans-a-swimming, six geese-a-laying, five go-ooooold rings, four calling birds, three french hens, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree, don’t you think?

Do you have a true love that you would like to treat to the 12 days of Christmas but you don’t have an extra $35,000 lying around? If yes, than County National Bank is here to help!

You may have to lower your standards for items such as the five gold rings but CNB will help make sure that you get gifts that fit the theme of the song to spoil your true love this holiday season.

On the first day of Christmas you can give your true love a partridge in a pear tree or.....

May we suggest a DVD of The Partridge Family: The Complete First Season. I know what you’re thinking, this is not the same as a singing bird but it only costs about $15.99 on Amazon.com and a pear tree costs upwards of $100 these days. If you want to go above and beyond you can also pick up a bag of pears at the grocery store for about $5.

On the second day of Christmas you can give your true love two turtle doves or.....

….Dove chocolate? Chocolate Caramel Turtles? We know it is not the same thing, but it does have Dove in the name and everyone loves chocolate, right?

On the third day of Christmas you can give your true love three French hens or.....

A cookbook featuring recipes for classic French food, French wine and cheese and the movie French Kiss featuring Meg Ryan will be sure to leave your true love swooning.

On the fourth day of Christmas you can give your true love four calling birds or.....

You could purchase a prepaid calling card at CallingCards.com. If that doesn’t sound practical, you can always get your true love a phone case and/or 4 stuffed animal birds.

On the fifth day of Christmas you can give your true love five go-oooold rings or.....

……you could run down to the local bakery and purchase 5 glazed donuts, or you can purchase 5 RingPops. If you want to be fancy with this one, you can always go to Target and pick out some tasteful gold jewelry for less than $100 a pop! If worst comes to worst, you can buy your true love a bag of goldfish crackers for about $2.

On the sixth day of Christmas you can give your true love six geese-a-laying or.....

….may we suggest a comforter or blanket linked with goose down? You can buy a goose down comforter from Amazon.com for just under $80. If this is too much you can plan “breakfast for dinner” with six eggs, fancy ingredients, and an omelet pan to make the perfect omelet for your hunny.

On the seventh day of Christmas you can give your true love seven swans-a-swimming or.....

Plan a relaxing movie night with critically acclaimed movie, Black Swan, featuring Natalie Portman, along with a bubble bath bomb, popcorn and maybe throw in some swimming toys to be whimsical. This relaxing movie night will be something that your true love will be sure to enjoy.

On the eighth day of Christmas you can give your true love eight maids-a-milking or.....

…….pick up a gallon of milk (chocolate or white, we’ll let you choose) along with some Honey Maid graham crackers and cookies and candies to dunk. If that isn’t exciting enough, I’m sure you could hire a maid-service for a day from Molly Maids or Merry Maids.

On the ninth day of Christmas you can give your true love nine ladies dancing or.....

Get your dancing shoes ready! This day allows you to take your one true love to dancing lessons. If you can’t dance you can always watch the TV show, “So You Think You Can Dance?” and give your love some time away to watch and relax in peace.

On the tenth day of Christmas you can give your true love ten lords-a-leaping or.....

….tickets to a local production of the Nutcracker for an exciting and tasteful date night that will be sure to put you in the Christmas mood. If this is too fancy, you can always buy your true love a jump rope and Hawaii Five-0. Fun Fact: there is an actor in Hawaii Five-O named Jack Lord. If you’re lucky you may even see a scene where Jack Lord’s a-leaping.

On the eleventh day of Christmas you can give your true love eleven pipers piping or.....

Purchase your true love’s favorite tea and make them a cup of ‘piping hot’ tea. You can also treat your true love to a new holiday mug paired with “piping” hot chocolate and/or their favorite coffee.

On the twelfth day of Christmas you can give your true love twelve drummers drumming or.....

Buy your true love tickets to go see their favorite band, performer, or group. If this is too much, you can also go to Amazon.com and get some bongo drums for just under $35. If these ideas don’t tickle your fancy, you can’t go wrong with purchasing the Christmas Stop motion animated special featuring The Little Drummer Boy along with the others at the local grocery store and warm up with your true love while you watch some Christmas Classics. If by the twelfth day you are exhausted and out of ideas, you can always buy your love some Barcardi Rum, because hey, it rhymes with drum and it’s the thought that counts.

Your significant other may think that you’re crazy by the end of these twelve days, but look at how much we are saving you! If you took good notes and buy everything on our list and buy the cheapest products (like the goldfish), you will probably spend no more than $180 for twelve days of gift giving. That means County National Bank saved you $34,378.65. You’re welcome.

Whether you participate in the 12 days of Christmas gift giving or not, we hope this article gave you some ideas and at least made you smile. Incorporating the Twelve Days of Christmas into your holiday will be sure to create happy memories this holiday season.
